New ChromeOS Extension

ChromeOS extension version cos1.0.16 now available! The Chromebook Management Assistant extension is used to gather accurate geographic locations of organizational Chromebooks.

You must make a configuration change in Google Workspace to install the new extension. To install the new extension, follow the instructions in this knowledge base article to install the new ChromeOS extension.

Please install the new version as soon as possible to ensure no disruption in Chromebook geolocation.

Why the update?

This is an architectural improvement to the ChromeOS extension utilizing Google's new Manifest V3 architecture and security framework.

What about the old extension?

The old cos0.0.3 extension is no longer functional and should be removed. The installation instructions linked above provide information on how to remove the the old extension.

As always, the ChromeOS extension only affects organizational Chromebooks. It has no impact on personal Chromebooks, and has no impact on personal or organizational Windows or MacOS computers.
