Asset Tags

Asset Tags add arbitrary metadata to Assets so you can group loosely related items that don't fit Classes, Groups, or Sites.

Asset Tags

Asset Tags let you attach arbitrary metadata to an Asset — one or more tags carrying any meaning you need. They’re for grouping assets that have no other reasonable way to be categorized. Examples:

  • ESSER-purchased
  • SSH-Enabled
  • Grant Funded

When to Use Tags

Your primary organization comes from Asset Classes, Asset Groups, and Sites. Sometimes, though, assets are only loosely related and those mechanisms don’t fit. Tags let you collect disparate assets so you can report on them easily, build Dynamic Asset Groups around a tag, or enable specialized budgeting.

Common Questions

How are Tags different from Asset Classes or Groups?
Classes, Groups, and Sites are your primary organization; Tags add flexible, arbitrary metadata for loosely related items.

Can a device have more than one Tag?
Yes — an asset can carry multiple tags.

What can I do with Tags?
Report on tagged assets, drive Dynamic Asset Groups, or support specialized budgeting.
