On-Ramp

The On-Ramp is a holding area where Assets await your approval before joining your organization.

On-Ramp

The On-Ramp is a temporary holding area for Assets requesting to join your organization. It gives you control over which agent-based, automatically created Assets are allowed in.

How Assets Reach the On-Ramp

  • An Asset has the K12Panel Agent installed and points to your Organization GUID.
  • A Google sync brought in a Chromebook for the first time.

A badge on the On-Ramp menu shows how many assets are awaiting a decision.

Adopting or Rejecting an Asset

For each listed asset you can Adopt or Reject. You can also bulk-adopt or bulk-reject by selecting multiple assets. Use the details provided — BIOS serial, the agent’s reported public IP, timestamps, model information — to decide whether an asset is genuine and safe to adopt.

Rejected Assets

Turn on the View Rejected Assets switch to see previously rejected assets. Select them and click Restore to put them back on the On-Ramp. A rejected asset won’t reappear on its own — even after another Google sync or agent re-attempt — unless you restore it.

Adoption Details and State

When you adopt an asset, you can edit its fields first. Assets are adopted in Inactive state, so Modifiers won’t immediately affect them — adopt with confidence if the asset belongs in inventory. Adopting a single asset takes you straight to its page to Activate it; for multiple assets, select them on the Assets tab and Activate them together.

Re-Enroll

If an asset shows a Re-Enroll button instead of Adopt, it was previously adopted and is requesting to rejoin. This happens when:

  • The asset was wiped or reimaged.
  • The Agent or its key was removed or reinstalled.

The asset is asking to re-establish a security key exchange and can’t until you authorize it by re-enrolling.

Common Questions

Why is an asset on my On-Ramp?
Either an Agent installed with your OrgID, or a Google sync brought in a new Chromebook.

If I reject an asset, will it come back?
No, not unless you restore it — even after another sync or agent attempt.

Why is my newly adopted asset not getting Modifiers?
Adopted assets start Inactive. Activate them so Modifiers apply.

Why does an asset say Re-Enroll instead of Adopt?
It was adopted before and was wiped or had its Agent/key reset; re-enroll it to re-establish trust.
