MSP Tools: Using K12Panel as a Multi-Org RMM
K12Panel is built for managed service providers (MSPs) who support many schools and organizations from one account. Instead of logging into a separate console for every client, you manage all of your client organizations from a single K12Panel login — using it as a cross-org RMM (remote monitoring and management) platform.
There are two complementary ways to work: switch into one client at a time for deep, per-org work, or use the MSP Tools (cross-org features) to see and act across every client at once.
Who Can Use MSP Tools
The MSP Tools menu is visible only to users who are Admin or higher in two or more active organizations. If you administer a single org, you'll still switch orgs as needed, but the cross-org menu won't appear.
Throughout this article, "client" and "organization" mean the same thing — each managed school or district is a separate K12Panel organization.
The Two Ways to Work
1. Switch into one organization at a time
Use the Switch Organizations dropdown at the top of the screen. It has a type-ahead search box, so you can jump to any client by typing part of its name, and each organization is color-coded so you always know which client you're working in.
Once you switch into an organization, you have K12Panel's full per-org toolset for that client:
- Assets — every managed device (Windows PCs via the agent, Chromebooks via Google sync, Apple devices via MDM, network gear, cameras, and manually tracked items).
- Blueprints and Modifiers — your RMM automation layer: deploy and remove software, change configuration, install printers, force updates, and run virtually any PowerShell-based task against Windows machines.
- QuickCommands and Remote Control — push near-real-time commands to agents and launch remote-control sessions (VNC, Splashtop, RustDesk, and more) from an Asset page.
- On-Ramp — approve new devices into the client's inventory.
- Defender Monitoring, Windows Update tracking, Reports, Budgeting, Integrations, People, and Service Cases — all scoped to that client.
This is where day-to-day, hands-on work happens. The cross-org tools below are how you stay on top of all clients without switching one by one.
2. Work across all organizations at once (MSP Tools)
The MSP Tools menu in the left navigation gives you three cross-org features:
- Cross Org Alerts — a triage matrix showing each client's active threats, on-ramp arrivals, open alerts, and modifier trouble at a glance, so you know where to focus first thing each morning.
- Cross Org Search — find devices across every client from one screen, using keyword or plain-English AI search, then jump straight to any result.
- Cross Org Lists — save named groups of clients (for example by technician, region, or tier) to quickly scope the two tools above.
How the Two Modes Work Together
The cross-org tools are designed to point you to the right place, then hand you off into the per-org tools:
- From Cross Org Alerts, clicking a client's count (say, three active threats) switches your active organization to that client and drops you on the relevant per-org page — ready to act.
- From Cross Org Search, clicking an asset switches your active organization to its owner and opens that asset's detail page.
In other words: use the cross-org tools to monitor and triage the whole fleet, and org-switching to remediate inside a specific client.
A Typical MSP Workflow
- Start your day on Cross Org Alerts to see which clients need attention.
- Use Cross Org Lists to focus on just the clients you're responsible for today.
- Click into a client's hotspot (a threat, an on-ramp arrival, a suspended modifier) — K12Panel switches you into that org at exactly the right page.
- Remediate using the full per-org toolset (run a Modifier, push a QuickCommand, remote in, adopt a device).
- Use Cross Org Search anytime you need to locate specific hardware across every client (for example, every device past warranty, or every machine running a vulnerable app).
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a separate login for each client? No. One K12Panel login gives you access to every organization you administer. Switch between them with the Switch Organizations dropdown, or work across all of them with MSP Tools.
Why don't I see the MSP Tools menu? It appears only if you are Admin or higher in two or more active organizations. If you administer just one org, the cross-org menu is hidden.
Can I deploy software or scripts to multiple clients at once? Software and configuration are deployed per organization through Blueprints and Modifiers. Switch into each client to manage its automation. The cross-org tools are for monitoring, searching, and triage across clients; remediation happens inside a client.
What's the difference between switching orgs and using MSP Tools? Switching orgs gives you the complete per-org toolset for one client at a time. MSP Tools (Cross Org Alerts, Search, and Lists) let you see and triage across every client at once, then jump into the right client to act.
Does jumping from a cross-org tool change my active organization? Yes. Clicking a result in Cross Org Search or a count in Cross Org Alerts switches your active organization to that client and takes you to the relevant page. Use the navigation menu or browser back button to return.
How do I limit the cross-org tools to just some of my clients? Create a Cross Org List — a saved group of organizations — and set it as your default. Cross Org Search and Cross Org Alerts seed their scope from it.
